Make It Do What It Do, Baby: Protective Style Updo!

You should learn a protective style updo since it is an absolute must that as a nuturalista you protect your ends at all costs!  One way to insure that your hair is both growing and thriving is by keeping the ends tucked away.  This reason alone makes protective styling an essential technique that every naturalista should add to their regimen.

What You’ll Need

This style features TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave-In Conditioner, TGIN Twist & Define Cream, and Moco De Gorila, Gorilla Snot Gel

Protective Updo

  1. Make a u-shaped part at the top of the head for the bang.  You can adjust the size to your liking.

2. Part hair the size to fit two flat twist on each side of the head and two in the back.  Add a dime sized amount of TGIN Green Tea Super Moist Leave-In Conditioner to section and detangle with a detangling brush.

3. Add a nickel sized amount of TGIN Twist & Define Cream to each section, detangle again and flat twist each section towards the back in an upward curved slant. 

4. After completing all 6 flat twists; twist them around each other into a tight knot and add two hair pins to hold in place.

5. Make 1 inch twists in the bang section.  Here, we made about 9 individual twists.  6. Smooth the edges with a small amount of Moco De Gorila, Gorilla Snot Gel.

7.  After hair is dry, gently unravel each twist in the bang area.
